NCRW History

Nacogdoches County Republican Women was first founded 70 years ago, on July 2, 1955, by Mrs.
Charlotte Montgomery and six other local ladies. The first meeting of the Nacogdoches County
Republican Women was held in Mrs. Montgomery’s home. However, there was very little support for
Republican organizations in Nacogdoches at the time, and the original Nacogdoches County Republican Women was disbanded some years later.

Thankfully, another group of strong women with conservative values stepped up in 1978 and
reestablished the organization. The revival of the Nacogdoches County Republican Women was headed by Lucy DeWitt, Joan Cason, Pattye Greer, and Glinda Lilly, with assistance from GOP chair, John Cason.

The tenants of a Texas Federation of Republican Women Clubs are to:

  • train and educate individuals on and in politics,

  • assist in the election of Republican candidates,

  • encourage women to run for office, and

  • serve their community.

Since its founding, Nacogdoches County Republican Women has continued to uphold these tenants and has played an integral part in turning Nacogdoches County from dreary Democrat blue to bright MAGA red.

In the 47 years since the re-establishment of Nacogdoches County Republican Women, the organization has grown from four members and two associate members to a Jumbo Club with 115 members and 49 associate members in 2025. Our organization has assisted in the election of many Republican candidates, from the local level to state office. We have had members of our organization hold many offices including precinct chair, county chair, State Republican Executive Committee Woman, District Clerk, Justice of Peace, School Board Members, City Council Member, County Commissioner, State Representative, and a current state Senate candidate.
